Weathered Wooden Decking?
I have some wooden decking. It is masanduba which is a type of brazillian hardwood. When it was new it was a rich orange/brown colour, I treated it with oil but has since turned a dull grey colour.I tried to lighlty sand it and oil it but it comes out a burnt brown colour. Any tips on restoring the original orange brown?

- go to home depot they will guid you through it
- The grey color of your deck is mold/mildew. Mold Spores that are in the grain. The same thing that makes fences turn grey after a year or so. A very easy fix for you is plain ole' liquid bleach. When I refinish/stain fences I mix 1/2 water -1/2 Bleach in a deck sprayer and spray away. Any sprayer will work but one with a "fan" shaped spray pattern is faster. You will start seeing results in a few hours but I like to let it work for a day or two and sometimes even give it another good soaking after a day.
This process will return the wood to it's natural color, as for the orange/brown color of past I'm not familiar with that type wood so I can't say if it was clear oil over natural or if it was a tinted oil stain. If you are in the US the best product I have ever used is PENOFIN, short for Penetrating oil finish. It's a little on the higher priced end of fence and deck protectors but worth every penny. It has a strange smell for a few days but goes away. They have different shades "Western Red Ceder" is a nice dark orange'ish color but the shade is going to depend on you decks natural color. I pay about $26 a gallon for it at a fencing supply house. I have seen it @ home depot. Hopes this helps
