Having my dog on Patio and timber decking?
I want to remove the lawn in my back garden - basically as my dog is out in the garden during the day so when I get home he's dirty from the lawn especially with recent wet weather. I am going to patio half the garden and was thinking about timber decking the remainder. Has anyone else done this? Would number 1s and 2s damage the decking? I can't patio the whole thing as there's a big enough slope

- I have heard that they treat decking boards with arsenic. They warn you not to have small children around it. I would think it would be bad for a dog to be on it all the time.
- if your dog likes to chew on wood I recommend not getting the decking, previous answer is correct. The wood used for decking is treated with arsenic.
patio is absolutely fine, we have our whole back yard paved and our dog loves it, she can pee and poop til her hearts content and we just pick it up and hose. She is a dog that gets plenty of other exercise at the beaches parks etc so she is happy to play and do her business on paving.
personally I could not have the decking as I know for a fact she would chew on it!!
- i have a 4 month old gsd. our back garden is patio, decking and gravel. she has never messed on the decking but uses the gravel.perhaps you could train your dog to use one place in the garden for toileting.good luck.i dont think any mess would damage the decking, but it would be harder to clean up because of all the grooves!!
- my back garden is decked, and is going to be paved but we haven't got round to that yet. anyways my dog doesnt go on the decking, dont know why but he just doesn't
